Dr. Madhavan Munusamy belongs to the South-Indian branch of Swami Sivananda tradition of yoga. Yogacharya Madavan is Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from Venkatramana Ayurvedic Medical College (Chennai); he also received a Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy from Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana in Bangalore and attended the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta ashram TTC and Advanced TTC courses.
Comparing to Indian yoga tradition that is being studied already for more than 100 years and is partly applied in the West, Tibetan yogic practices just started to be slightly revealed. Before the Chinese invasion Tibet was a secluded country, both due to its geographical position and local mentality, foreigners were not welcome here. In 1940s an Indian teacher of Hatha and Kundalini yoga sent his western disciple Theos Bernard to Tibet to perfect his knowledge. It took a lot of efforts for Theos “to gain confidence”.
Apart from the famous Thai resorts, there are several traditions that attract tourists from the West to this friendly country. First, it is the well-known Thai massage. Using the techniques visually reminding hatha yoga asanas, the massage therapist treats all the body. Such therapists can be found in special parlours or right in the streets, though the quality may differ.
